ClearLock provides a semi-transparent lock screen, allowing you to display the contents of your desktop while still safeguarding it from unauthorized input. This offers a balance between visibility and security.

Selecting the Appropriate ClearLock Edition

ClearLock is designed as a self-contained, portable application. Its primary function is to secure your computer, but unlike traditional locking methods, it doesn't conceal the desktop. Instead, it overlays a semi-transparent dark layer over the desktop environment.

Incorrect password attempts will be rejected. After three failed attempts, ClearLock will temporarily freeze, preventing access to the system for a defined period.

Visual Appearance of the Locked State

The locked screen presents a transparent, darkened layer over active processes. This allows ongoing activity to remain visible while the ClearLock window maintains prominence.

If no keyboard or mouse input is detected for a certain duration, the ClearLock screen will automatically retract, revealing the darkened desktop background.

Simple Password Recovery

Further investigation revealed a straightforward method for resetting the password. Deleting the "ClearLock.ini" file accomplishes this. Upon subsequent execution of ClearLock, the application will prompt the user to establish a new password.

This process provides a quick and easy way to regain access.

Limitations of ClearLock

The developer of ClearLock advises against relying on the application as a comprehensive system security solution. They acknowledge that users with advanced technical skills can circumvent the lock.

However, ClearLock remains suitable for providing basic protection. It can effectively secure a computer during brief absences, such as a quick restroom break.
