Windows 7/Vista: Change Start Menu Icon Size - Small Icons
Adjusting Start Menu Icon Size in Windows
By default, Windows Vista employs larger icons within the Start menu. The setting to revert to smaller icons is, however, somewhat concealed. Fortunately, its location has been identified.
It is worth noting that Windows 7 offers a more straightforward method for this adjustment.

Changing the Icon Size in Windows Vista
Begin by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting "Properties".
Next, click the "Customize" button.
Scroll down to the very bottom of the customization options. There, you will find a checkbox labeled "Use large icons". To utilize smaller icons, ensure this box is unchecked.
The result is a more compact Start menu, which is particularly beneficial if you frequently pin your favorite applications to the menu.
