CES 2022: Return to Las Vegas Confirmed

CES Returns to Las Vegas in 2023
It is admittedly unusual to experience a diminished sense of apprehension regarding a return trip to Las Vegas for the holidays this year. However, positive developments are occurring. With vaccine distribution progressing globally, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is preparing for its resumption.
Event Details and Confirmed Attendees
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), the organizing body for this substantial consumer electronics exhibition, announced today that the event will be held in Las Vegas from January 5th to 8th. Media coverage will commence on January 3rd, extending the post-New Year festivities. Approximately 1,000 companies have already confirmed their participation, according to a press release.
Among the companies listed as attendees are Amazon, AMD, AT&T, Daimler AG, Dell, Google, Hyundai, IBM, Intel, Lenovo, LG Electronics, Panasonic, Qualcomm, Samsung Electronics, and Sony. It is crucial to acknowledge, considering recent events, that all plans are subject to potential modifications.
CTA's Statement on the Return
“Our clientele are eager to participate in a live event in Las Vegas once more,” stated Karen Chupka, EVP at CTA, in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Both established global brands and emerging startups have indicated that preparations are well underway, and they are committed to sharing the unique experience of an in-person CES with a broader audience worldwide.”
A Hybrid Approach to Future Events
A degree of uncertainty will persist until arrival at McCarran International Airport (and the continued use of face coverings remains a personal consideration). The CTA also emphasizes the continuation of a digital component to the show. This blended approach will likely remain a significant feature of industry events going forward.
While the pandemic did not entirely eliminate trade shows – particularly those focused on hardware – certain aspects will inevitably be altered.
The 2020 and 2021 Experiences
In 2020, the CTA narrowly avoided the initial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with the event taking place approximately two months before the virus’s widespread effects were felt. The first (and, to date, only) fully virtual CES received a varied reception.
The virtual experience, understandably, fell short of expectations given the scale and complexity of the show. However, the established digital infrastructure will not be abandoned, especially considering the increased scrutiny surrounding attendance at such events.
Other Industry Events
Several other trade shows, including MWC and IFA in Europe, are still scheduled to proceed in 2021, incorporating enhanced safety measures. The size and scope of these events, however, remain fluid, with numerous companies opting for virtual participation only.
The industry is adapting to a new normal, balancing the benefits of in-person interaction with the safety and accessibility of virtual platforms.
