Addressing Feline Dehydration with Innovative Technology

A significant number of cats are affected by dehydration annually, representing a substantial health concern. Responding to this need, Petcube, a company specializing in pet technology – including smart cameras and automated treat delivery – unveiled its inaugural pet water fountain at CES 2025 on Tuesday.

This device is designed to provide pets with a consistent supply of clean, potable water even in the absence of their owners. Providing easy access to fresh water is crucial for preventing dehydration and mitigating the potential for urinary and kidney complications.

Instinctual Appeal and Design

Cats often exhibit a preference for drinking from moving water sources, such as faucets, rather than stationary bowls. This behavior stems from their natural instincts. Petcube’s water fountain caters to this innate preference by offering a gentle, continuously flowing stream of filtered water.

The fountain is also suitable for smaller breeds of dogs, expanding its potential user base.

Superior Water Purification

Numerous pet water fountains are currently available, however, Petcube asserts its product achieves “nearly 100% water purification.” This comprehensive purification process effectively eliminates particles, chlorine, and other potentially harmful pollutants.

The company attributes this high level of purification to the integration of UV-C antibacterial light and a sophisticated, four-layer filtration system.

Smart Features and Convenience

The fountain incorporates app connectivity, enabling users to track filter replacement schedules. Alerts are sent when filter changes are required, ensuring optimal water quality and preventing the reintroduction of contaminants.

The water tank’s capacity allows for approximately one week of use between refills, while the internal battery provides up to 20 days of operation.

Market Positioning and Availability

Petcube’s entry into the pet water fountain market positions it as a direct competitor to established brands like PetSafe and Petlibro. The pricing structure aligns with comparable products currently offered.

Preorders are being accepted at a price of $90 for a model featuring a ceramic basin, and $70 for a version with a stainless steel bowl. Shipping is scheduled to commence on March 1.
