Cabify Go!: New Multimodal Subscription Service Launched

Cabify's Expansion into Multimodal Subscriptions

Cabify, the ride-hailing company originating in Spain, is aiming to become the primary transportation solution for urban residents. This week marks the commencement of a pilot program introducing a multimodal subscription model to 40,000 users in Madrid, with subsequent rollout plans encompassing other Spanish cities and markets across Latin America.

A Subscription for Every Commuter

The newly launched “Cabify Go!” subscription service caters to a broad spectrum of transportation preferences. Cabify’s existing mobility options – including its ride-hailing service, the electric micromobility subsidiary MOVO, the bike subscription service Bive, and its courier service – are unified within a single application. Now, customers can choose from three distinct plans tailored to individual mobility requirements.

Eligible users will observe a “Go!” button appearing in the top-right corner of their app interface. This initiative seeks to establish the Cabify brand as a ubiquitous resource for city dwellers planning their journeys, whether opting for a traditional taxi to the airport or utilizing a scooter for their daily commute.

Growth and User Needs

“The ‘Cabify Go!’ subscription scheme is designed to transform our app into a frequently used platform, offering a diverse range of services,” explained Leonor Barrueco, Cabify’s VP of growth, to TechCrunch. “This strategy directly supports our ambition to be the leading multimobility platform, allowing us to better address the varied and evolving needs of our users. We are dedicated to providing convenient, diverse, and sustainable transportation options at an accessible monthly cost.”

Subscription Plan Details

The flagship offering, “Cabify Go! Todo en uno” (“Everything in one”), is priced at €6.95 monthly. It provides subscribers with a 10% discount on all Cabify rides and a 30% discount on Cabify Envíos courier services. Furthermore, subscribers benefit from two complimentary ride cancellations per month and exemption from surge pricing during periods of high demand.

Alternatively, the “A dos ruedas” (“On two wheels”) plan, costing €19.95 per month, includes 10 free MOVO rides, each capped at €6, with no additional charges. Cabify anticipates that these subscriptions will attract new users to the platform. Currently, the acquisition rate of new users within Cabify’s moped segment is approximately 1.5 times greater than that of its ride-hailing services, as noted by Barrueco.

Barrueco added, “Considering the growing platform landscape where customers demand a variety of multimobility services, some users may be exploring alternative options for the first time, while others are new to the entire multimobility ecosystem.”

Bive Integration and Sustainable Options

The “Pedelea” (“Pedal”) plan features Bive’s long-term electric or mechanical bike rental service, offered at competitive monthly rates of €49.95 and €28.95, respectively. This plan includes servicing and maintenance, alongside a 10% discount on ride-hailing trips.

Introduced approximately a year ago, Bive has already expanded from Madrid to Valencia, Sevilla, and Barcelona. Integrating the service into Cabify’s subscription offerings is intended to broaden the reach of Bive, a strategy validated by internal data indicating that 50% of Bive’s users are new to the Cabify platform.

Flexible Subscription Terms

According to Barrueco, all services offer subscriptions without sign-up or cancellation fees, allowing users to terminate their subscriptions at any time. This flexibility aligns with the growing trend of mobility subscriptions, driven by evolving consumer habits.

The Rise of the Subscription Economy

Telecoming’s 2021 Subscronomics Report highlights the expansion of the subscription market in Europe. With a base of 353 million households and over 2,100 connected devices, the region is projected to purchase 560 million subscriptions this year, representing 25% of the global total. This is expected to generate a global subscriptions industry valued at nearly $228 billion, a 31% increase from 2020, with an anticipated annual growth rate of 23% through 2025.

Other companies embracing the monthly rental model include Unagi with its e-scooters, Swapfiets with bikes and e-bikes, and Onto with electric vehicles.

A Vision for Sustainable Cities

Barrueco emphasized that a key objective for Cabify is to contribute to the transformation of cities, prioritizing people and environmental sustainability by increasing access to shared transportation modes.

“A primary company priority is to develop and strengthen our multimobility service proposition, providing users with diverse, sustainable alternatives and reducing reliance on private vehicles,” Barrueco stated.

Electrification Goals

Currently, electric vehicles comprise only about 1% of Cabify’s total fleet, with hybrid vehicles accounting for 3%. However, Cabify aims for complete electrification of collaborating fleets in Spain by 2025 and in Latin America by 2030. The company is actively collaborating with stakeholders, including IDB Invest, the Ministry of Energy in Chile, and automotive manufacturers, to evaluate suitable EV models.

“Achieving widespread EV adoption involves addressing several urban and industry-wide challenges, such as the limited availability of EV models compatible with ride-hailing demands, battery longevity, legal clarity regarding access to financing, and the availability and characteristics of charging infrastructure,” Barrueco explained.
