Bosch Enhances E-Bike Security with New App-Based Battery Lock

At CES 2025, Bosch, the German technology and manufacturing company, unveiled an innovative theft prevention system for its e-bike batteries.

This new functionality allows users to digitally lock their batteries directly through the Bosch Flow+ application.

How the New Battery Lock Works

Upon activation, the e-bike battery will automatically lock electronically when the owner powers down their Bosch e-bike.

Should a battery be stolen and subsequently connected to a different Bosch e-bike, it will become inoperable.

Furthermore, the stolen battery will also disable the motor assistance on the receiving e-bike, rendering it unusable.

Conversely, Bosch is introducing a feature enabling owners to generate digital keys, granting riding access to trusted friends and family members.

Availability and Existing Security Measures

This enhanced security feature will be rolled out later this summer through an over-the-air software update for compatible Bosch e-bike batteries utilizing the company’s smart system.

This addition builds upon Bosch’s existing security offerings, which already include smartphone-integrated locking systems built into select e-bike displays.

Bosch also offers a dedicated alarm system for its e-bikes, alongside traditional mechanical locking mechanisms for the batteries.

AI-Powered Charge Level Management

Beyond the security enhancements, Bosch also announced a new feature utilizing AI to optimize battery charging.

This system allows riders to specify their desired charge level upon completing a ride.

The e-bike will then intelligently manage power distribution between the battery and motor to achieve the specified target.

Details regarding the precise implementation of this AI-driven feature remain limited, and further information is anticipated from the CES 2025 exhibition floor.
