The social networking platform Bluesky, positioned as an alternative to X, has released a new application update. This update introduces features previously announced, including a “followers only” reply restriction and a “search posts” function for user profiles.

Followers-Only Reply Option

This new functionality distinguishes Bluesky from platforms like X and Meta’s Threads. It allows users to curate their interactions, limiting replies to those who follow them.

The “followers only” setting is particularly beneficial when posts gain widespread attention. It helps prevent “content collapse,” a situation where unfamiliar individuals contribute to discussions, obscuring the original intent.

Reply Control Comparison

X offers a range of reply controls, including options for “Everyone,” “Accounts you follow,” “Verified accounts,” and “Only accounts you mention.” Posting within specific Communities also restricts visibility.

Threads provides users with choices between “Anyone,” “Profiles you follow,” and “Mentioned only.”

Accessing the New Features

Bluesky users can activate the “followers only” feature within the app’s Settings menu, specifically under Moderation > Interaction Settings. This will apply to all subsequent posts.

The newly implemented search feature allows users to locate specific posts authored by a particular individual. This is useful for revisiting past content.

Update Details and Compatibility

To utilize these new features, updating the app to version 1.98 is required. It’s important to note that replies from users who haven’t updated their app may still be submitted, though they won’t be visible to the original poster if the “followers only” setting is enabled.
