Blue Origin Prepares for Second New Glenn Launch

Jeff Bezos’ space exploration company, Blue Origin, is poised to undertake a second launch attempt with its powerful New Glenn rocket. The announcement, made on Wednesday, indicates a launch window opening as early as Sunday, November 9th.

The launch will originate from Launch Complex 36, located in Cape Canaveral, Florida.

First Flight Recap

New Glenn’s inaugural flight occurred in January and was largely considered a success. While the rocket’s upper stage successfully achieved orbit, the first stage experienced an anomaly during its descent.

Specifically, the first stage was lost due to an explosion before a controlled landing could be executed on a drone ship at sea.

Second Launch Details and Payload

Initially, Blue Origin aimed for a second launch in “late spring” of this year. However, the schedule experienced several adjustments.

This increased caution stems from the fact that the upcoming launch will transport revenue-generating customer payloads.

Key Payloads Aboard New Glenn

  • NASA’s ESCAPADE spacecraft: A pair of spacecraft destined for the planet Mars.
  • Viasat tech demonstrator: Technology intended for demonstration purposes.

The presence of these payloads necessitates a higher degree of reliability and precision during the launch and recovery phases. Blue Origin is focused on ensuring a successful mission for its customers.
