Bird Buddy Expands into Insect Monitoring with Wonder

Bird Buddy’s innovative smart bird feeders represent a unique integration of several advanced technologies. Recent advancements in areas like AI, solar charging, and security cameras have culminated in a compelling product that has garnered significant public interest.

During CES 2025, the company’s developers revealed plans to extend their reach into a different segment of the animal world.

Introducing Wonder: A New Sub-Brand

Wonder is a new sub-brand designed to bring a similar level of technological engagement to the realm of insects, with a particular focus on pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

This year will see the launch of two initial products: Petal and Wonder Blocks.

Petal: A Smart Camera for Insects

Petal shares similarities with the existing Bird Buddy line, functioning as a type of trail camera specifically designed for insects.

“Petal skillfully combines state-of-the-art technology and engineering to capture and live stream wildlife directly to your smartphone or preferred smart device,” explains Wonder. “Leveraging Nature Intelligence, a sophisticated AI system, this new camera device analyzes natural sights and sounds.

It can identify events like birds hatching, butterfly flight, flower blooms, and bee pollination, delivering a dynamic view of nature to your fingertips.”

The product’s name, Petal, is inspired by its flower-like design, featuring a solar panel that resembles a leaf on a stem.

The stem itself is designed to be flexible, allowing it to be staked into the ground or wrapped around tree branches.

Wonder Blocks: Building Biodiverse Habitats

Wonder describes Blocks as “a modular system for constructing thriving, biodiverse natural environments.”

Essentially, it’s a cylindrical structure containing various components, including a seed tray, plant pot, a butterfly feeder, and specialized “hotels” for bees and other insects.

The Petal camera can be conveniently mounted on top of the Blocks system.

Considering the challenges my smart bird feeder has faced with local squirrels, I anticipate they will find the new Wonder products equally appealing.
