Change Notification Duration in Windows 8 - Beginner Geek

Adjusting Notification Display Duration in Windows 8
The standard notification display time in Windows 8 is configured to five seconds. However, users frequently desire to modify this setting to allow notifications to remain visible for an extended period.
Modifying the Notification Timeout
It's possible to customize how long Windows 8 notifications are shown on the screen. This adjustment can improve your ability to read and process important alerts.
The process involves accessing the Registry Editor, a powerful tool for system configuration. Caution: Incorrect modifications to the registry can cause system instability, so proceed carefully.
Steps to Change the Notification Display Time
Here’s how to alter the notification timeout:
- Open the Registry Editor by pressing the Windows key + R, typing "regedit," and pressing Enter.
- Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Notifications - If the Timeout value doesn't exist, right-click in the right pane, select "New," and then "DWORD (32-bit) Value."
- Name the new value Timeout.
- Double-click the Timeout value to modify it.
- Select "Decimal" as the base.
- Enter the desired timeout duration in milliseconds. For example, to display notifications for 10 seconds, enter 10000.
- Click "OK" and close the Registry Editor.
A system restart may be required for the changes to take effect. After restarting, notifications should now remain visible for the specified duration.
By adjusting this setting, you can ensure that you have sufficient time to review all important notifications within the Windows 8 operating system.
Adjusting the Display Duration of Windows Notifications
To access the notification settings, initiate the Win + X key combination on your keyboard. Alternatively, a right-click on the lower-left corner of your screen will reveal the WinX menu; from there, select Control Panel.

Following this, navigate to the Ease of Access section within the Control Panel.

Subsequently, click on the link labeled Ease of Access Center.

Within the Ease of Access Center, select the option that reads “Make it easier to focus on tasks.”

This section allows you to modify the length of time Windows displays notifications on your screen.

The process is now complete.
