AWS Launches Four New Storage Services

AWS Unveils New Storage Solutions at re:Invent
During its annual re:Invent conference, Amazon Web Services (AWS) revealed four innovative storage services and enhancements. These additions are focused on providing customers with increased flexibility, cost optimization, and improved data security.
New Amazon S3 Glacier Storage Class
A new Amazon S3 Glacier storage class has been introduced, engineered to deliver millisecond-level access to archived data. AWS asserts this class offers the most cost-effective cloud storage solution for long-term data preservation, where immediate retrieval is occasionally required.
Amazon FSx for OpenZFS Launched
AWS has launched Amazon FSx for OpenZFS, simplifying the migration of data from on-premises commodity file servers to AWS. This service eliminates the need for extensive testing and modifications to existing applications.
Amazon FSx for OpenZFS is capable of delivering performance levels of up to 1 million IOPS, with latencies measured in hundreds of microseconds.
Cost-Effective EBS Snapshots with Amazon EBS Snapshots Archive
To address the expenses associated with archiving snapshots, AWS introduced Amazon EBS Snapshots Archive. This new storage tier allows customers to reduce costs for Amazon EBS Snapshots retained for extended periods – months or even years – by up to 75%.
Snapshots can now be seamlessly moved to EBS Snapshots Archive utilizing a single application programming interface (API).
Expanded AWS Backup Capabilities
AWS is broadening the scope of AWS Backup to encompass a wider range of cloud and on-premises workloads, now including support for Amazon S3 and VMware environments.
With AWS Backup support for S3, users can replace custom scripting previously used for centralized application backup management.
Furthermore, AWS Backup now extends protection to VMware workloads, regardless of whether they are hosted on-premises or within VMware Cloud on AWS.
The Importance of Data Storage
“Every business today is a data business. One of the most important decisions that a business will make is where to store their data,” stated Mai-Lan Tomsen Bukovec, Vice President of Block and Object Storage at AWS.
These new storage services are designed to grant customers greater control over their storage management strategies. The aim is to enhance both data management practices and overall data protection capabilities.
