The Louvre of Bluesky: A Poetic Reflection

The Disappearance of a Bluesky Icon

A sense of loss is felt within the Bluesky community this weekend, as a highly regarded account has ceased operation – though the possibility of its return remains.

Referred to as The Louvre of Bluesky, this account was widely known for its critical eye towards questionable content. It didn’t simply offer its own observations; its most impactful contributions were screenshots of particularly egregious posts, preserved for posterity.

A Chronicle of Online Missteps

Creating a comprehensive tribute is challenging now that the Louvre account is inactive. It’s nearly impossible to categorize all the instances of online behavior it documented. A key trait of posts featured by the Louvre of Bluesky was a lecturing tone, coupled with indignation at the mere notion of others enjoying themselves online.

It’s possible to read too much into an anonymous social media account focused on screenshots, but it consistently felt like a counterpoint to complaints about Bluesky being a homogenous, liberal platform. This wasn’t someone making a cursory visit to confirm biases and write yet another repetitive opinion piece.

The individual behind the account clearly possessed an intimate understanding of the platform, both its strengths and its more peculiar aspects, regardless of their personal feelings towards it.

A Cautionary Tale

The account also served as a subtle reminder that anyone can, in a moment of lapse in judgment, publish something regrettable or embarrassing. Knowing the Louvre of Bluesky existed prompted many, including myself, to reconsider and delete ill-advised or obvious responses.

The Reason for its Closure

The Louvre of Bluesky’s disappearance was explained by its author in a Patreon post. They stated the account was taken down “temporarily” due to harassment – specifically, someone reporting their actions to employers and even their wife’s employers.

They also expressed uncertainty about the account’s future viability. The details provided are limited, leaving the community in a state of anticipation.

One can only hope that, like its namesake, the Louvre of Bluesky will eventually reopen its doors. Even if it doesn’t, its legacy will endure, reminding us that a single post can lead to lasting notoriety.
