Apple is currently engaged in the development of new chip technologies. These advancements are intended to power a range of devices, including smart glasses comparable to Meta’s Ray-Ban Meta, as well as enhanced Mac computers and dedicated AI servers.

Low-Power Chip Inspiration

According to reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, one particular chip design draws inspiration from the low-power processors utilized in the Apple Watch. The company is targeting mass production of these chips in collaboration with TSMC, with a projected timeframe of late 2026 or 2027.

Focus on Smart Glasses

Smart glasses represent a significant area of focus for Apple. It has been previously stated that Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, is committed to surpassing Meta’s position in the smart glasses market.

Meta has experienced considerable success in this sector, having sold approximately 2 million units of Ray-Ban Meta glasses since 2023.

AI-Powered Glasses Exploration

Bloomberg reports that Apple is investigating the creation of glasses that are not primarily augmented reality (AR) focused. These glasses would instead employ cameras to analyze the surrounding environment.

Artificial intelligence would then be leveraged to provide assistance to the user. A processor currently in development is designed to manage these cameras and related components efficiently, minimizing battery consumption.

This processor will be crucial for enabling extended use of the glasses without significant power drain.
