Apple OS Update: Biggest Design Changes in Years

Significant Design Overhaul Anticipated for Apple Operating Systems
According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is preparing substantial updates for its iPhone, iPad, and Mac operating systems. These updates are expected to introduce the most significant design alterations across all of the company’s platforms in several years.
Details of the Upcoming Changes
The redesign, slated for release with iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16, will encompass a comprehensive refresh of visual elements. This includes icons, menus, applications, windows, and system buttons.
Simplification of both navigation and control mechanisms is a key objective of this overhaul. The reported changes aim to provide a more streamlined user experience.
Inspiration from visionOS
The new design language is said to draw inspiration from visionOS, the operating system powering Apple’s VisionPro VR headset. Key features borrowed from visionOS include circular icons and the utilization of translucent panels for enhanced navigation.
Leadership and Timeline
These changes represent a primary focus for the software and user interface teams within Apple’s design division. Alan Dye, Apple’s Vice President of Human Interface Design, is leading the project.
A first look at iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16 is anticipated at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.
The updates are expected to deliver a more cohesive and modern aesthetic across Apple’s ecosystem.
