Apple and Boys & Girls Clubs of America Expand Coding Education

A new partnership between Apple and Boys & Girls Clubs of America is set to provide coding education to young people throughout the United States. This initiative will integrate Apple’s Everyone Can Code curriculum into the activities offered at local Boys & Girls Clubs.

Program Details and Objectives

The collaboration aims to equip students with the skills to create and understand the fundamentals of application design and development. A key focus will be on fostering critical thinking and innovative problem-solving abilities.

Students will have the opportunity to learn coding concepts through a variety of subjects, including music, art, science, and physical education.

Initial Launch Locations and Expansion Plans

The program is initially being implemented in ten regions across the country. These include Atlanta, Georgia; Austin, Texas; the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area; Miami-Dade County, Florida; Wake County, North Carolina; and Silicon Valley.

Further expansion is planned to reach Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide. The program has already begun in Atlantic City, New Jersey; Chicago; Detroit; Nashville, Tennessee; and Newark, New Jersey.

Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of environment, policy and social initiatives, expressed excitement about expanding the partnership. She noted that thousands of students have already benefited from innovative technology experiences through this collaboration.

This latest initiative builds upon Apple’s existing Community Education Initiative, which supports the company’s broader Racial Equity and Justice Initiative.

Evolution of the Everyone Can Code Curriculum

Apple has been progressively broadening the scope of its Everyone Can Code program over recent years. The curriculum is now accessible to a wider range of age groups.

  • In 2019, Everyone Can Code Puzzles was introduced, designed to encourage students to explore coding concepts.
  • Last year saw the launch of Everyone Can Code Adventures, offering more complex coding activities.
  • Two months prior to this announcement, Apple released a new “Everyone Can Code Early Learners” activity guide.

The new guide extends Apple’s educational resources to cover students from kindergarten through college.
