Apple News Expands Local Coverage to Three New Cities

Apple News Broadens Local News Reach
Apple News is extending its coverage of local news to include Charlotte, Miami, and Washington, D.C.
This expansion will provide users with access to a diverse range of publications.
Featured Local Publications
- Axios Charlotte
- The Charlotte Observer
- Eater Miami
- The Miami Herald
- DCist
- Washingtonian
- The Washington Post
The local news offerings are carefully selected by Apple News editors.
Coverage encompasses a wide spectrum of topics, from new restaurant launches and shifts in the real estate market to significant governmental policies.
Initial Rollout and Subsequent Expansion
Curated local news experiences were initially introduced by Apple News last year for the Bay Area, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco.
Further expansion occurred earlier this year, bringing the feature to Sacramento, San Antonio, and San Diego.
Apple has announced intentions to continue broadening the availability of its local news feature to even more cities in the coming months.
Competitive Landscape
This move positions Apple to more directly challenge other news aggregation platforms.
Services like Flipboard and SmartNews currently provide local news coverage across thousands of cities within the U.S.
Additional Service Expansions
The expansion of local news coverage coincides with Apple’s plans to extend Fitness+ and its Apple One Premier subscription package to 17 additional countries starting November 3rd.
These countries include Austria, Brazil, Colombia, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Portugal, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates.
