Apple Eyes Formula 1 Rights: Potential US Home for Racing

Potential New Home for Formula 1 Streaming in the U.S.
Discussions are underway that could see Formula 1 racing find a new streaming platform within the United States. Apple is reportedly exploring the acquisition of broadcasting rights, signaling a continued expansion into live sports content, according to reports from the Financial Times.
Expanding Apple’s Sports Portfolio
Apple has already established partnerships for streaming Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer. The current contract between ESPN and Formula 1 is set to expire following the next racing season.
However, securing these rights won’t be straightforward. Apple will face competition from ESPN and potentially other interested parties vying for the broadcasting deal.
Momentum for Formula 1 Entertainment
This development coincides with the success of Apple’s recent theatrical release, a film centered around Formula 1 and produced in collaboration with prominent driver Lewis Hamilton.
Formula 1-related entertainment is currently experiencing a surge in popularity. The Netflix docuseries “Drive to Survive” is widely credited with propelling the sport into the American mainstream consciousness in 2019.
Live race viewership has consistently risen, particularly among a younger demographic, with a notable increase in female viewers.
A request for comment directed to Apple TV has not yet received a response.
