iPhone 17: Apple Launches New Model with 120Hz Display

iPhone 17 Series Unveiled with Display and Camera Enhancements
Today, Apple officially introduced the iPhone 17 series during a highly anticipated event. A key improvement is found in the base model, which receives a significant display upgrade.
Larger Display and ProMotion Technology
The iPhone 17 boasts a slightly expanded screen size, measuring 6.3 inches, compared to the 6.1-inch display of its predecessor, the iPhone 16. Notably, the base model now incorporates ProMotion technology, previously exclusive to higher-tier models.
This advanced display technology supports a fluid 120 Hz refresh rate. It intelligently adjusts refresh rates dynamically, leveraging LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) technology for optimal power efficiency.
Enhanced Brightness and Durability
The new display achieves a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, ensuring excellent visibility even in bright outdoor conditions. Furthermore, it is now shielded by Ceramic Shield 2, offering improved scratch resistance.
Performance and Processing Power
Powering the iPhone 17 is the new 3 nm A19 processor. This chip includes a dedicated display engine designed to optimize the performance of the upgraded display.
Camera System Upgrades
A new 48-megapixel ultrawide camera is featured in the iPhone 17. This enhanced camera system also facilitates 2x optical telephoto capabilities and improved macro photography.
Front Camera Innovations
The front-facing camera has been updated with an 18-megapixel square sensor. Apple states this allows for versatile selfie capture in various formats without requiring orientation changes.
Additionally, a new selfie center is implemented to deliver more stable video recording. The front camera also supports Center Stage functionality for enhanced video calls.
Availability, Colors, and Pricing
The iPhone 17 will be offered in a range of colors, including lavender, mist blue, black, white, and sage. Pricing for the base model begins at $799, with a starting storage capacity of 256GB.
For context, the iPhone 16 started at $699 for 128GB of storage. Essentially, the price point remains consistent for comparable configurations, although the 128GB storage option is no longer available.
Pre-order and Release Dates
Pre-orders for the iPhone 17 commence this Friday. The devices will officially be available for purchase starting September 19.
