Apple Streaming Losses: Reportedly $1 Billion Per Year

Apple TV+ Faces Significant Financial Losses
A recent report published by The Information indicates that Apple is experiencing annual losses exceeding $1 billion from its streaming platform, Apple TV+.
Currently, Apple TV+ represents the sole service within Apple's diverse product range that is not generating a profit.
Content Investment and Expenditure
Since its debut in 2019, the company has allocated approximately $5 billion annually towards content acquisition.
However, content spending was reduced to $4.5 billion in 2024.
Apple TV+ has become recognized for its critically acclaimed original series, including titles such as “Severance,” “Ted Lasso,” “The Morning Show,” “Silo,” and “Shrinking.”
Subscriber Numbers and Industry Comparison
Despite accumulating over 2,500 nominations and awards for its productions, Apple TV+ has not yet reached the subscriber levels of leading competitors.
The service trails behind major players like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video in terms of overall subscriber base.
While Apple does not publicly release specific subscriber figures, estimates suggest Apple TV+ currently has around 45 million subscribers.
Streaming Market Leadership
For comparison, Netflix currently holds the position of industry leader with a substantial 301 million subscribers.
This highlights the considerable gap in subscriber numbers between Apple TV+ and the most successful streaming service.
