iOS 26 Brings Widgets & Message Tapbacks to CarPlay - Apple News

iOS 26 and the Future of CarPlay
During the WWDC 2025 event, Apple unveiled iOS 26. Alongside the introduction of a novel “Liquid Glass” design aesthetic, the company detailed upcoming enhancements for CarPlay.
Key New CarPlay Features
Several significant additions are planned for CarPlay. These include the integration of widgets and live activities, alongside the functionality to select a “tapback” reaction for received messages.
Furthermore, users will gain the capability to pin preferred conversations, mirroring the functionality currently available within iMessage.
Improved User Interface
Apple also emphasized a change to the incoming call interface. It will no longer occupy the full CarPlay display.
Instead, the call UI will remain compact and positioned at the screen's bottom. This ensures that active navigation or other essential information isn't obscured during a phone call.
Design Refresh and Availability
CarPlay is set to receive a comprehensive design update. This refresh incorporates the translucent qualities characteristic of the “Liquid Glass” design language.
All of these improvements will be available with the launch of CarPlay Ultra in May. As is typical following WWDC, further details regarding CarPlay modifications are anticipated to emerge as Apple engages with developers in the coming days.
