Android to Gain Auracast Support for Enhanced Hearing Aid Connectivity

Google revealed on Thursday that Android phones will shortly incorporate Auracast, an innovative Bluetooth technology. This advancement facilitates a direct link between hearing aids and audio transmissions, particularly beneficial in bustling settings.

Auracast enables compatible hearing aids and earbuds to directly receive audio streams. Examples include public address systems in transit hubs or audio broadcasts during live performances.

Personalized Audio Experience

Google highlights the ability to apply customized hearing aid settings to these broadcasts. This allows users to tailor the audio streams to their individual hearing profiles for an optimized experience.

Initial Device Compatibility

The initial rollout of this feature will be available on Samsung Galaxy phones running One UI 7. It will also be included on Google Pixel 9 phones utilizing the newest Android 16 beta.

Functionality is contingent upon using compatible LE Audio hearing aids. Supported manufacturers currently include GN Hearing and Starkey.

Simplified Broadcast Connection

Pixel 9 devices are gaining the capability to connect to broadcasts via QR codes. This streamlines the process, eliminating the need to navigate device settings for public broadcast access.

Additional Accessibility Features in Android 16

The Android 16 beta also introduces a new accessibility option. This feature assists users with low vision by outlining text, thereby improving readability.

Enhanced Network Security

A Local Network Protection (LNP) feature is also being implemented. Google states that LNP will provide users with greater control over app access to devices on their local network.
