Analogue Pocket Release Date: Retro Gaming Handheld Ships December 13

Analogue Pocket Shipping Date Announced

Analogue, the company renowned for its high-quality retro gaming consoles like the Nt Mini, Super Nt, and Mega Sg, has revealed the shipping date for the eagerly awaited Analogue Pocket handheld. Units will begin shipping on December 13th.

Initial delays were experienced due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent supply chain disruptions. However, Analogue confirms that all existing preorders are scheduled to be dispatched on December 13th, with estimated delivery occurring between December 14th and December 30th.

Key Features and Capabilities

The Analogue Pocket promises a premium retro gaming experience. It features a vibrant 3.5″ LCD screen boasting a resolution of 1600x1440 and a pixel density of 615 PPI.

Out of the box, the console natively supports cartridges from the original Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance systems. Furthermore, compatibility extends to other handhelds through the use of optional adapters.

  • Adapters are available for Game Gear cartridges.
  • Support is also offered for Neo Geo Pocket Color cartridges.
  • The Atari Lynx is another system supported via adapters.

Beyond gaming, the Analogue Pocket incorporates a built-in digital audio workstation known as Nanoloop. This allows users to create music using both synthesizer and sequencer functionalities.

FPGA Technology and Authentic Gameplay

A significant technical accomplishment by Analogue lies in its utilization of FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) chips. These chips enable the console to run game cartridges natively, mirroring the original hardware’s functionality.

This approach avoids emulation, delivering a reference-quality gaming experience that appeals to purists. Multiple screen modes are available to replicate the visual characteristics of the original hardware for dedicated retro gamers.

Connectivity, Accessories, and Battery Life

Priced at $199.99, the Analogue Pocket is also compatible with a range of accessories. The Analogue Dock provides 1080p video output to televisions.

Up to four 8BitDo controllers can be connected for local multiplayer sessions, utilizing both wired and wireless connections. The console’s internal battery provides up to 10 hours of gameplay on a single charge, and it is recharged via USB-C.
