Amazon Prime Gift Sending: Email & Phone Number Only

Amazon Introduces Simplified Gift Sending for Prime Members

Ahead of the upcoming holiday shopping period, Amazon has unveiled a streamlined method for sending gifts directly through its mobile application. This new functionality eliminates the need to obtain a recipient’s physical mailing address – a detail often unavailable in contemporary digital interactions.

Prime members can now conveniently send gifts to contacts using only their phone number or email address.

How the New Gift Sending Feature Works

The system presents an alternative during the checkout process, bypassing the traditional address entry field. If a delivery address is unknown, users can select the option “Let the recipient provide their address.”

Following this selection, the sender inputs the recipient’s email or mobile number.

The intended recipient will then receive a notification – either via email or text message – prompting them to accept the gift. Acceptance requires providing Amazon with their preferred shipping address, as stored within their own Amazon account.

Gift Options and Recipient Control

Recipients also have the flexibility to exchange the received item for an Amazon gift card of equivalent value. This option is available if the gift-giver chose to include a gift receipt during checkout.

Importantly, this exchange can be completed discreetly, without alerting the original sender – mirroring the etiquette of traditional gift-giving. Because the recipient is informed of the purchased item, expressing gratitude for the specific selection remains possible.

Prime Membership Requirement and Potential Impact

This new feature is exclusively available to Amazon Prime subscribers, costing $119 annually or $12.99 monthly.

Amazon intends this addition to incentivize new Prime memberships, addressing a common frustration during the gift-giving season.

While it may not be a compelling reason for those not already considering a subscription, it could serve as a valuable retention tool for existing members, particularly for last-minute purchases or forgotten gifts.

Availability and Additional Announcements

The rollout of this feature to Prime members in the U.S. begins on October 4th via the Amazon mobile app.

Alongside this announcement, Amazon revealed its early Black Friday deals and a multi-week beauty promotion, featuring discounts across numerous products.

This comprehensive offering aims to enhance the shopping experience for customers during the busy holiday season.
