Amazon Launches Halo View: A New Competitor in the Fitness Tracker Market

Following the release of its initial fitness band, Halo, Amazon has unveiled its successor, the Halo View. While not yet venturing fully into the smartwatch arena, the company is demonstrably targeting the Fitbit brand – owned by Google – with this latest offering.

Pricing and Market Positioning

The Halo View’s price of $80, inclusive of a one-year subscription to Amazon’s Halo service, positions it competitively within the mid-range of the fitness tracker market. It presents a strong alternative, especially among devices featuring integrated displays.

Key Features and Specifications

This new wearable incorporates a color AMOLED touchscreen, enhanced with haptic feedback for responsive interaction. It is designed to provide real-time feedback during physical activity.

The device is also waterproof, making it suitable for swimming. A full charge, achievable in 90 minutes, provides up to seven days of battery life.

Integrated sensors continuously monitor activity levels, track workouts, analyze sleep patterns, and measure blood oxygen saturation.

Software and Content Offerings

Accompanying the Halo View is a suite of new content features. Halo Fitness provides access to a library of workout videos led by trainers such as Michael Hildebrand, Elena Cheung, and Elizabeth Andrews, mirroring services like Apple’s Fitness+.

Furthermore, Halo Nutrition is introduced to assist users in developing and maintaining healthier dietary habits. Both features are integrated within the broader Halo software ecosystem.

Real-time fitness data, captured by the Halo View, is displayed directly on the screen during Halo Fitness workouts, similar to the functionality found in Fitness+.

Availability and Privacy Considerations

The Halo View will be offered in three band colors initially, with additional bands available for separate purchase. It is expected to be released “in time for the holidays.”

The original Halo device previously sparked privacy debates. Senator Amy Klobuchar expressed concerns regarding the extent of personal health information collected by the device, noting its potentially unprecedented data collection practices among consumer health trackers.
