Amazon Tech in Stellantis Vehicles | 2024 Update

Stellantis and Amazon Collaborate on In-Vehicle Technology
Stellantis is partnering with Amazon to integrate a range of connected products and services into its vehicles, with implementation expected by 2024. This initiative forms a key part of the automaker’s strategy to generate $22.5 billion in annual revenue from software offerings.
Comprehensive Collaboration
Announced at the 2022 CES technology exhibition, this collaboration is designed to impact virtually all facets of Stellantis’ operations. Amazon’s technological expertise will be leveraged to enhance vehicle development, create advanced in-vehicle experiences, and facilitate the training of future automotive software professionals.
AWS as Preferred Cloud Provider
As a central component of this multi-year agreement, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has been designated as Stellantis’ primary cloud provider for its vehicle platforms. Furthermore, Stellantis is collaborating with AWS to establish a comprehensive educational program covering software, data analytics, and cloud technologies, building upon its recently launched software academy.
Significant Investment in Software and Electrification
While Stellantis unveiled its software roadmap in December, the Amazon partnership was not disclosed at that time. The company is committing over $33.7 billion through 2025 to both software development and vehicle electrification. This investment will support the employment of 5,000 software engineers by 2024.
Connected Car Revenue Goals
Stellantis aims to have 34 million connected vehicles on the road by 2030, creating a sustained revenue stream long after the initial sale. Strategic alliances with companies like BMW, Foxconn, Waymo, and now Amazon, are crucial to achieving this objective.
Three-Tiered Software Approach
The automaker’s strategy for monetizing software through in-vehicle products and subscriptions is built upon three interconnected components, all currently in development.
STLA Brain: The Core Architecture
The foundation is STLA Brain, the underlying electrical and software architecture. This system integrates with the cloud and connects the vehicle’s electronic control units to a central, high-performance computer via a high-speed data bus. This architecture enables over-the-air software updates.
SmartCockpit: Driver-Focused Platform
Building upon this core, Stellantis has developed SmartCockpit, in partnership with Foxconn. This platform will deliver a suite of applications to drivers, including navigation, voice assistance, an e-commerce marketplace, and payment services.
AutoDrive: Automated Driving Capabilities
Completing the software plan is AutoDrive, an automated driving platform co-developed with BMW.
Enhancing SmartCockpit with Amazon
Stellantis is working with Amazon to further refine the SmartCockpit platform, integrating applications that deliver personalized in-vehicle experiences. Drivers and passengers across Stellantis’s 14 brands will gain access to an app store for services and entertainment. The Alexa voice assistant will also be integrated into the SmartCockpit.
Personalized Experiences Through AI
Amazon’s artificial intelligence technology will be utilized to understand and adapt to customer preferences and behaviors. For example, Jeep vehicles may feature a digital off-road “coach” to assist drivers in optimizing vehicle settings for challenging terrain.
Seamless Integration with Amazon Ecosystem
Vehicle software will be interconnected with other Amazon products and services, allowing users to manage their smart homes while driving. Conversely, users can remotely adjust their vehicle’s cabin temperature via Alexa-enabled devices or the Alexa smartphone application.
