Amazon Announces Availability of Kindle Scribe and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft

Following their initial reveal in September, Amazon has confirmed that the latest Kindle Scribe models, including the first color iteration, will be available for purchase beginning December 10th.

Kindle Scribe Details

The redesigned Kindle Scribe boasts an expansive 11-inch glare-free display. Its profile is remarkably slim at just 5.4mm, and it weighs a mere 400g.

Performance has also been enhanced, with Amazon stating a 40% increase in speed for writing and page turns. A newly engineered texture-molded glass surface aims to replicate the tactile experience of writing on traditional paper.

Internally, the device incorporates a new quad-core processor and increased memory capacity. Furthermore, it utilizes Amazon’s most recent Oxide display technology for a smoother overall user experience.

Two versions will be offered: one equipped with a front light and another without. The Kindle Scribe with a front light will retail starting at $499.99 on December 10th. The model lacking a front light will become available in early next year for $429.99.

The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft distinguishes itself with display technology designed to produce gentle colors that are easier on the eyes compared to conventional LCD screens.

A novel rendering engine has been developed to amplify color vibrancy and ensure a fluid, natural writing experience. Amazon also highlights weeks of battery life for the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft.

The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will be available for purchase starting at $629.99 on December 10th.

New Features and Integrations

Both devices introduce a revamped Home screen. This allows users to quickly begin note-taking and access recently used books, documents, and notebooks.

Amazon anticipates significant use for handwritten notes, and has integrated features to support this. Users will be able to search through their notes across all notebooks and receive concise AI-powered summaries.

Looking ahead to next year, users will have the capability to send their notes and documents to Alexa+ for more comprehensive interactions.

The Colorsoft model provides artists with a new shader tool for creating seamless gradients and subtle tonal variations. Users can select from ten pen colors and five highlighter colors for writing, drawing, and annotation.

Enhanced Reading Experience with AI

New AI-driven reading features are also being introduced. The “Story so Far” function allows readers to quickly recap the plot of their current book up to their last reading point.

The “Ask this Book” feature enables users to highlight text passages and receive spoiler-free answers to questions regarding character motivations or scene significance.
