Alexa Together: Amazon Launches Elder Care Subscription

Amazon Introduces Alexa Together: A New Subscription for Elder Care
Amazon has unveiled a new subscription service, Alexa Together, specifically designed to support families caring for aging relatives who maintain independent living. This service aims to provide an additional layer of assistance for seniors.
Expanding on Existing Features
Priced at $19.99 monthly, Alexa Together builds upon Amazon’s prior investment in elder care, Alexa Care Hub. It incorporates many of Care Hub’s functionalities and enhances them with new safeguards.
Alexa Care Hub: The Foundation
First launched in November 2020, Alexa Care Hub, accessible through the Alexa mobile app, allowed family members – with the senior’s consent – to monitor the activities of their older loved ones. Alerts were provided if the loved one requested assistance.
With Alexa Together, families can continue utilizing features like care alerts. These alerts keep family members informed when an aging relative seeks help from Alexa.
Enhanced Support Network
Early next year, Alexa Together will enable multiple individuals to contribute to a loved one’s support system. This is particularly beneficial when care responsibilities are shared among siblings.
Even local neighbors can be integrated into the network, allowing them to check on the senior in emergency situations.
Additional Caregiving Tools
Caregivers can establish reminders on their loved one’s Alexa devices. They can also connect a music streaming service, enabling easy access to favorite songs.
Adding contacts to the senior’s Alexa account facilitates hands-free calling to friends and family.
Urgent Response and Emergency Helpline
A key addition is the urgent response feature, providing 24/7 hands-free access to a professional emergency helpline. This ensures help is readily available if a senior experiences a fall or other emergency.
Upon activation, Alexa will automatically contact the designated family members, neighbors, and other connected individuals.
Subscription Details
The service will be offered at no cost for the first six months. Following the trial period, a subscription fee of $19.99 per month will apply for continued access.
