Run as Administrator: Windows 7 & Vista - How To

Running Applications with Administrator Privileges in Windows
Certain applications, particularly older ones, require administrator rights to operate correctly. This is often the case with utilities not fully compatible with newer Windows versions like Windows 7 or Vista.
Windows shortcuts, beginning with Vista, include a specific property that enables applications to consistently launch with administrator privileges.
Setting the 'Run as Administrator' Property
This feature is particularly useful when creating batch files designed to restart services. To configure this setting, locate the shortcut for the desired application.
Right-click on the shortcut and select "Properties". Navigate to the "Shortcut" tab within the Properties window.
Click the "Advanced..." button. This will open the "Advanced Properties" dialog box.
Within the Advanced Properties dialog, locate and check the box labeled "Run as administrator".
Confirm your selection by clicking "OK" on both the Advanced Properties and Properties windows.
Impact of the Setting
Following this adjustment, the application will invariably execute with administrator rights whenever launched through the modified shortcut.
If User Account Control (UAC) is enabled on your system, you will receive a prompt requesting confirmation before the application gains elevated privileges.
This method provides a convenient way to ensure consistent administrator access for specific applications without needing to manually select "Run as administrator" each time.
