allright, an english language learning app for children, raises $5m from genesis investments

AllRight is an educational platform dedicated to English language acquisition for children aged four and up. It uniquely integrates instruction from qualified teachers with supplementary practice facilitated by “AI-driven” tutoring systems. The company has recently secured $5 million in Series A funding, spearheaded by Genesis Investments, and including contributions from TMT Investments, TerraVC, as well as returning investors Flashpoint and Misha Lyalin.

The startup, based in Ukraine, will utilize these funds to expand into new geographic regions and reinforce its presence in existing markets like Poland, Russia, Spain, and Latin America. AllRight identifies companies such as Open English, LingoKids (which has received $22 million in funding), MyBuddy, Preply ($15 million), and NovaKid ($2.3 million) as key competitors.

Globally, there are roughly 1.5 billion individuals learning English, with 500 million of those learners being children as of 2020. Industry reports indicate that the worldwide market for English language learning is anticipated to reach $55 billion by 2025, exhibiting an annual growth rate of 7%.

The company concentrates on markets where access to online education is limited, particularly within developing economies. Since its inception in 2017, AllRight has introduced Spanish-English, Polish-English, and Russian-English learning programs, attracting 9,000 students who collectively participate in 50,000 lessons each month.

The educational experience is built around a real-time collaborative platform connecting teachers and students for live online lessons. These lessons are subject to “AI-based quality control” and are complemented by an “AI-powered tutor” that utilizes voice interaction, speech recognition, and speech synthesis, enabling children to practice their spoken English with artificial intelligence. The application has seen increased usage as a result of the shift to virtual schooling prompted by the recent pandemic.

AllRight was established by Oleg Oksyuk, and its team includes professionals with prior experience at 51Talks, SkyEng, Cisco, and Yandex. He stated: “Our initial language pair launch three years ago demonstrated the effectiveness of incorporating gamification into language learning during early childhood. Consequently, in March 2019, we focused on delivering a cost-effective edutainment program and expanded to offer Spanish-English and Polish-English language pairings.”

Vitaly Laptenok, general partner at Genesis Investments, commented: “This represents the largest investment made by Genesis Investments to date…The platform is currently experiencing a 3x year-over-year growth rate, a trend the team is supporting through market expansion and scaling operations.”
