AirPods Pro 3: Heart Rate Sensing & Live Translation with Apple Intelligence

Apple Unveils the Third-Generation AirPods Pro
At Tuesday’s “Awe-dropping” event, Apple introduced the third-generation AirPods Pro. These new earbuds feature heart-rate tracking, enhanced audio quality, and a redesigned charging case with increased functionality.
Apple last updated the AirPods Pro line in 2022 with the Pro 2 model. A three-year gap preceded this latest release. Preorders for the new AirPods Pro begin today, with a retail price of $249. They will be available in stores starting September 19.
Key Features of the AirPods Pro 3
A prominent new capability of the AirPods Pro 3 is integrated heart-rate sensing. This marks the first time this feature has been included in the AirPods family. The system functions similarly to that found in the Powerbeats Pro 2, utilizing LED sensors for accurate readings.
Data gathered from the heart-rate sensor will seamlessly synchronize with Apple’s Fitness application. This allows users to monitor their health metrics conveniently.
Improved Noise Cancellation and Translation
The AirPods Pro 3 boast significantly improved active noise cancellation. Apple states that the new model reduces twice as much external noise compared to the Pro 2.
A future feature, enabled by the iOS 26 software update, will provide live translation capabilities. This allows for real-time conversations across different languages.
The iPhone will handle one language, while the AirPods deliver the translation in the user’s ear.
Enhanced Comfort and Fit
The new AirPods Pro feature smaller, more comfortable earbuds. Apple is now offering foam ear tips in five distinct sizes.
The company asserts that these AirPods provide “the best-fitting experience” yet.
Potential for a Second AirPods Pro 3 Variant
Prior to the event, speculation arose regarding a possible second version of the AirPods Pro 3. This would represent a higher-end offering.
It is anticipated that this premium variant will carry a higher price tag. The key upgrade would be an infrared camera.
Advanced Features of the Rumored Model
- The infrared camera would enable hand gesture recognition.
- This would also deliver an enhanced spatial audio experience.
- Improved compatibility with Apple’s Vision Pro headset is expected.
The launch of this second AirPods Pro 3 model is currently projected for 2026.
