Get Local Weather Forecasts in Google Chrome
Are you seeking a straightforward method to view your local weather forecast directly within Google Chrome? The AccuWeather Forecast extension is certainly worth considering. It provides a convenient way to stay informed about current conditions and upcoming weather patterns.
Installation & Setup
Adding the extension to your browser is a simple process. Upon initiating the installation, a confirmation window will appear. Select “Install” to complete the addition of the extension to Google Chrome.
Following successful installation, a new “Toolbar Button” will be visible, accompanied by a confirmation message.
To access forecasts for your preferred location, simply click the “Toolbar Button”. This will display a window allowing you to select or add locations.
The options are accessible via a new tab. Here, you can input the city name for which you desire weather information. You can also choose between Metric and non-Metric measurements. A link is provided for locating international location codes, and you can customize the background color of the weather drop-down window.
We successfully entered “Singapore” and obtained the desired weather forecast location without needing to consult the codes on “accuweather.com”. After adding your location, click the “Save Button” to finalize the setup, unless you wish to modify the background color.
Upon clicking “Save”, a confirmation message will appear. Click “OK” to close it.
A single click on the “Toolbar Button” now displays the current conditions, the forecast for the current day, and the forecast for the following three days. This is a remarkably useful feature.
Examining the drop-down window reveals clickable links at the top for “Hourly Info, 15 Day Forecasts, & Videos”. These links provide access to more detailed weather information.
Selecting any of these links will open a new tab containing the requested information.
Options
If you need to change the location or background color at a later time, there are two ways to access the extension’s options. The first is through the “Chrome Extensions Page”.
Alternatively, you can use the “Options Link” located in the upper right corner of the drop-down weather window.
To modify the background color of the drop-down window, click the link in the lower right corner of the “Text Area”. This allows you to match the window’s appearance to your current browser theme.
A new tab will open, providing access to a color code picker.
You can select a pre-defined color or use your mouse to create a custom color on the spectrum chart. Once you’ve chosen a color, the corresponding color code will be displayed in the lower right corner and needs to be copied.
Paste the new color code into the background color text area and click “Save” to apply the changes. The confirmation window shown previously will reappear after saving.
Here’s how our example with a customized color scheme turned out.
