Introducing the Shareaholic Extension for Google Chrome
If you've been anticipating the arrival of Shareaholic functionality within the Google Chrome browser, the time has come. This article provides a detailed exploration of the Shareaholic extension designed specifically for Google Chrome. It’s worth noting that Shareaholic also offers compatibility with other browsers, including Firefox, Internet Explorer, Flock, Safari, and Songbird.
Shareaholic Installation and Initial Setup
Following the extension's installation, a new “Toolbar Button” will appear in your browser. A new tab will automatically open, presenting information regarding Shareaholic. It is advisable to keep this “Information Tab” open for a short period to facilitate the “login/create an account” process.
Importantly, there are no complex “in-browser” configurations required. Clicking the “Toolbar Button” will reveal the drop-down menu as shown below. You can begin utilizing the extension immediately, though functionality will initially be limited to the pre-selected services.
For demonstration purposes, we opted to create a new Shareaholic account, and keeping the “Information Tab” open streamlined the registration process.
Creating a Shareaholic Account
Account creation requires only three pieces of information: a username, a valid email address, and a secure password.
Upon account creation, promptly check your email inbox. You will receive a “Confirmation Request Email” containing a link to finalize the setup and unlock the ability to customize your “Services List”.
Customizing Your Services List
The extension currently supports a comprehensive list of services. The default selection of services is visually indicated. Modifying the displayed services is straightforward; simply click on your desired choices to select or deselect them.

Shareaholic in Operation
Shareaholic was tested on a tutorial page on this site. To share content, simply click the “Toolbar Button” and select your preferred service. The selected service will then open in a new tab or window, depending on your browser settings.
We began by testing with Google Mail. We were pleased to find that a dedicated “Compose Window” was launched. The “Subject” and “Letter” fields were pre-populated, leaving only the recipient’s email address, any additional text, and sending the message to be completed.
Next, we selected Twitter. As with Google Mail, the necessary fields were automatically filled, and the webpage link was shortened using bit.ly.
Our final test involved is.gd. The webpage address was also automatically converted to a shortened URL, requiring only a copy and paste action. This extension is remarkably user-friendly and is poised to become a frequently used browser add-in.
