Enhancing Your Windows 7 Media Center Movie Library with YAMMM

Users of the Windows 7 Media Center Movie Library often find its default interface somewhat lacking in visual appeal and detailed information. This guide will demonstrate how to enrich your movie collection’s presentation by adding movie cover art and comprehensive metadata using a utility known as YAMMM.

Understanding Media Center Requirements

For Windows Media Center to effectively showcase movie details like plot summaries, cast information, and visually appealing cover art, a specific file structure is necessary. Each movie file must reside within its own dedicated folder.

Crucially, this folder should share the same name as the movie itself. Within this folder, two key files are required: an XML file for metadata and a 'folder.jpg' file for the cover art.

How YAMMM Simplifies the Process

Manually creating and maintaining these files for a large movie collection can be incredibly time-consuming. YAMMM streamlines this process significantly.

This program automates the downloading of both the 'folder.jpg' and the corresponding .xml files directly from online databases. These files are then automatically placed into the appropriate movie folders, ensuring your Movie Library is consistently updated.

By leveraging YAMMM, you can quickly and efficiently populate your Movie Library with rich metadata and attractive cover art, transforming your viewing experience.

Organizing Your Movie Files with Folders

Are you currently keeping all your movie files in a single, large folder and finding it cumbersome to create separate folders for each one? Fortunately, the File2Folder Script 1.0 is designed to automate this task for you. (The download link is provided below.) If your movies are already organized into individual folders, or you prefer manual organization, you can proceed directly to the section on Installing and Configuring YAMMM.

To streamline the creation of individual movie folders, obtain File2Folder Script 1.0 and extract the filetofolder.bat file. Subsequently, transfer filetofolder.bat into the directory containing all of your movie files. It’s important to note that this script functions optimally when executed on your local computer; running it from a network folder is discouraged.

Initiate the process by double-clicking filetofolder.bat. This action will launch a Command window and begin moving your files. Once the operation is complete, simply press any key to close the Command window.

Following the script's execution, each movie should now reside within its own dedicated folder.

Visual Confirmation

You should now have each movie contained in its own individual folder.

As YAMMM operates as a service, access to network locations requires providing valid username and password credentials for the networked computer within the Network credentials section. If the computer on your network lacks a password, one must be established. Confirm your settings by clicking "Save."
