Acer's New Gaming Handheld: Size and Specs

Acer Introduces New Gaming Handhelds at CES 2025

At CES 2025, Acer revealed two novel gaming handheld devices. The manufacturer demonstrates a clear preference for larger form factors, pushing the boundaries of handheld gaming with a substantial 10.95-inch display.

Nitro Blaze 11: A Powerful Gaming Tablet

The Nitro Blaze 11 features an AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS processor, initially engineered for laptop computers. Integrated graphics are provided by an AMD Radeon 780M graphics unit.

This device boasts 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and offers configurable storage options, up to a maximum of 2TB.

Its defining characteristic is its considerable size. Weighing over 1kg (2.3 pounds), it matches the dimensions of an 11-inch iPad Air and possesses the weight of two such devices combined.

Thankfully, the controllers positioned on either side of the device are detachable, mirroring the design of the Nintendo Switch and Lenovo Legion Go.

This configuration transforms the handheld into a tablet paired with an external controller, presenting a more practical user experience.

Technical Specifications and Connectivity

The Nitro Blaze 11 operates on Windows 11, complemented by Acer’s dedicated gaming hub. It is powered by a 55Wh battery.

Connectivity options include two USB-C ports (one supporting USB 4), a USB Type-A port, and a microSD card slot.

The screen supports resolutions up to 2560×1600 and boasts a rapid 120Hz refresh rate.

Nitro Blaze 8: A More Compact Alternative

Acer is also launching the Nitro Blaze 8, a more conventionally sized gaming handheld. It features an 8.8-inch display with a 144Hz refresh rate.

Aside from its smaller size, the technical specifications of the Nitro Blaze 8 are largely identical to those of the Nitro Blaze 11.

However, unlike its larger counterpart, the controllers on the Nitro Blaze 8 are not detachable.

Availability and Pricing

Both the Nitro Blaze 11 and Nitro Blaze 8 are scheduled for release during the second quarter of 2025.

The Nitro Blaze 11 will be priced at $1,099, while the Nitro Blaze 8 will be available for $899.

Both devices represent Acer’s entry into the competitive handheld gaming market.
