1Password Acquires SecretHub: Enhanced Enterprise Secrets Management

1Password Expands into Infrastructure Secrets Management
1Password, a prominent password management solution rivaling services like LastPass and BitWarden, has announced a significant expansion of its capabilities. The company is now venturing into the realm of infrastructure secrets management.
Acquisition of SecretHub
This strategic move was facilitated by the acquisition of SecretHub, a dedicated secrets management service. Subsequently, 1Password is launching its new 1Password Secrets Automation service.
The financial details of the acquisition were not publicly disclosed. Data from CrunchBase indicates that SecretHub, based in the Netherlands, had not previously secured any institutional funding.
A Natural Progression for Enterprise Solutions
For companies such as 1Password, extending into the enterprise sector appears logical. Managing corporate credentials, API tokens, keys, and certificates for both personnel and complex infrastructure services is a growing need.
The integration of 1Password with its new Secrets Automation service provides businesses with a unified platform. This single tool now addresses both employee password management and the handling of critical infrastructure secrets.
Currently, over 80,000 businesses globally utilize 1Password. A substantial portion of these are likely candidates to adopt the new Secrets Automation service.
CEO Statement on Enhanced Security
“Protecting infrastructure secrets is as crucial, if not more so, than safeguarding employee passwords,” stated Jeff Shiner, CEO of 1Password. “1Password, coupled with Secrets Automation, establishes a single, reliable source for securing, managing, and orchestrating all business secrets.”
He further emphasized, “We are the first to effectively integrate both human and machine secrets in a user-friendly and impactful manner.”
Strategic Partnership with GitHub
Alongside the acquisition and service launch, 1Password announced a new partnership with GitHub.
“Our collaboration with 1Password is driven by their cross-platform solution, which will streamline workflows for developers and security teams,” explained Dana Lawson, VP of partner engineering and development at GitHub.
“The forthcoming integration between GitHub and 1Password Secrets Automation will enable teams to fully automate infrastructure secrets management, ensuring complete security and peace of mind.”
This integration will allow for automated management of all infrastructure secrets.
