YouTube TV May Lose NBCUniversal Channels - Cord Cutter News

Potential Channel Loss for YouTube TV Subscribers

NBC Universal has alerted YouTube TV customers to the possibility of 14 channels being removed due to an ongoing disagreement, as initially reported by 9to5Google.

YouTube has publicly addressed the issue through an official blog post, stating a $10 reduction in the monthly subscription fee will be implemented should the dispute remain unresolved and the channels become unavailable.

Affected Channels

Subscribers to YouTube TV could potentially lose access to NBC, USA Network, Golf Channel, Bravo, CNBC, Telemundo, and an additional eight channels.

The Core of the Dispute

The disagreement centers on the financial terms of the content agreement between YouTube and NBC Universal (NBCU). YouTube asserts its desire to secure pricing comparable to that offered to similarly sized streaming services.

“YouTube TV aims to secure the same rates as comparable services from NBCU, ensuring we can continue providing a competitively priced and equitable service to our members,” explained the Google-owned platform.

Conversely, NBC maintains that it is requesting “fair rates” from Google, emphasizing that YouTube TV’s current contract is nearing its expiration date.

NBCU's Response and YouTube's Offer

NBC Universal is actively attempting to influence the situation by encouraging viewers to contact YouTube TV via social media or direct messaging, and even to consider alternative providers.

However, YouTube has indicated that renewal is contingent upon NBCU agreeing to “equitable terms.”

As a temporary measure, YouTube has committed to lowering the monthly price from $64.99 to $54.99 during the period the channels are unavailable.

Alternative Content Access

Furthermore, YouTube is suggesting that users subscribe to NBC’s Peacock streaming service, priced at $4.99 per month, as a means of continuing to access NBCU content.
