Previously, while posing questions to ChatGPT was possible without an account, the answers were limited to information available up to the chatbot’s last knowledge update.

The Introduction of ChatGPT Search

In October, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Search, designed to rival Google’s search capabilities.

This feature enabled real-time information retrieval, covering areas such as current sports scores, breaking news, and up-to-date weather forecasts.

Initially, access to ChatGPT Search was exclusive to users with a premium ChatGPT subscription.

Expanded Access and Recent Changes

December saw an expansion of ChatGPT Search, making it available to a wider audience.

However, even with this expansion, a user login was still required to utilize the feature.

OpenAI has now eliminated this login requirement, further broadening access to ChatGPT Search.

Platform Specifics

It’s important to note that this change is currently limited to access through the ChatGPT.com website.

Users who wish to utilize ChatGPT via the official mobile application will still be required to log in to their accounts.
