Announced on Thursday, a new “Santa Mode” voice option is now available to ChatGPT users throughout December.

How Santa Mode Works

This feature integrates with ChatGPT’s existing Advanced Voice Mode, offering a real-time voice experience with a distinctly Christmas-themed tone.

The voice is characterized as being joyful and resonant, closely resembling the traditional sound of Santa Claus.

Timing and Potential Use Cases

The release of Santa Mode coincides with the approaching 2024 holiday season.

This timing is particularly relevant as many families will be spending extended periods indoors, creating ample opportunities for engaging with the festive feature.

Enhanced Capabilities with Visual Understanding

Alongside Santa Mode, OpenAI has also implemented visual understanding capabilities into ChatGPT.

This allows the AI to process and interpret live video feeds from a user’s camera.

Consequently, Santa Mode can now not only converse with users but also “observe” their surroundings.

Availability and Privacy

Santa Mode is accessible via a snowflake icon located to the right of the prompt bar within ChatGPT.

The rollout is currently underway and should be available to all users across mobile, web, and desktop applications (MacOS and Windows).

OpenAI confirms that conversations conducted in Santa Mode will not be stored in chat history and will not impact the AI’s memory.

This ensures user privacy while enjoying the seasonal experience.
