xAI to Integrate Grok into Telegram with $300M Deal

Telegram and xAI Announce Strategic Partnership for Grok Integration
A collaborative agreement has been established between Telegram and xAI, the artificial intelligence firm founded by Elon Musk. This partnership will facilitate the distribution of xAI’s chatbot, Grok, through the Telegram platform.
Financial Details of the Agreement
According to Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, xAI is set to provide $300 million, comprised of both cash and equity, to Telegram as consideration for this one-year distribution agreement.
Revenue Sharing Model
Beyond the initial payment, Telegram is also poised to receive 50% of all revenue generated from xAI subscriptions that are processed directly through the Telegram application.
Expanded Access to Grok
Grok was initially offered to Telegram’s premium subscribers earlier in the year. This new partnership suggests a potential expansion of access, possibly making Grok available to all Telegram users.
Grok’s Integration within Telegram
A demonstration shared by Durov on X highlighted several integration features. Grok can be pinned to the top of chat windows for easy access.
Users will also be able to directly query Grok through the Telegram search bar, mirroring a similar integration undertaken by Meta with its Meta AI within Instagram and WhatsApp.
Versatile Functionality of Grok
The showcased capabilities of Grok extend beyond simple question answering. It will offer assistance with content creation, including writing suggestions.
Furthermore, Grok is designed to summarize conversations, web links, and documents. It will also enable the generation of custom stickers.
Applications for Businesses and Moderation
Grok’s utility is anticipated to extend to the business sector, providing answers to inquiries. It is also expected to aid in content moderation efforts within the Telegram ecosystem.
Note: A correction has been made to clarify that the $300 million payment is being made by xAI to Telegram for the distribution rights of Grok.
