XAI CFO Departs: Another Executive Leaves Elon Musk's AI Company

Recent Executive Departures at xAI

Mike Liberatore, who served as chief financial officer for xAI, has reportedly left the organization. This development, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, represents the newest in a series of significant executive resignations.

Liberatore transitioned to xAI from Airbnb in April and concluded his tenure around the end of July, according to the WSJ’s reporting.

Financial Contributions and Data Center Oversight

During his time with xAI, he played a key role in securing $5 billion in debt financing, in addition to $5 billion in equity funding. A substantial portion of the equity, nearly 50%, originated from SpaceX.

He was also responsible for managing the expansion of xAI’s data center facilities located in Memphis.

A Pattern of Exits

Liberatore’s resignation follows that of Robert Keele, xAI’s general counsel, who departed in August after just over a year with the company. Concurrent with Keele and Liberatore’s departures, Raghu Rao, a senior legal professional, also left xAI, as detailed by the WSJ.

Furthermore, Igor Babuschkin, a co-founder of xAI, announced his departure last month. He intends to establish a venture capital firm focused on research into AI safety.

Earlier Resignations

Linda Yaccarino, previously the CEO of X, also resigned in July. This followed concerns regarding the behavior of Grok, xAI’s chatbot accessible through the X platform.

The acquisition of X by xAI was finalized in late March.

These departures raise questions about the stability and direction of the rapidly evolving AI company.
