XAI Appoints Anthony Armstrong as CFO - Former Morgan Stanley Banker

xAI Appoints New CFO
Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence firm, xAI, has recently named a new chief financial officer. Anthony Armstrong, a former banker from Morgan Stanley, will be assuming the role, according to reports from the Financial Times.
Background on Anthony Armstrong
Armstrong previously provided financial counsel to Musk during the acquisition of Twitter. He will now be responsible for managing the financial operations of both xAI and X, following their consolidation in April.
The Financial Times indicates that Armstrong has been collaborating with xAI for several weeks, with his official appointment as CFO occurring recently.
Recent Leadership Changes
The appointment of a CFO comes after a period of transition at xAI, as the company had been operating without one since Mike Liberatore’s departure in July.
This appointment is part of a broader trend of executive turnover at both xAI and X.
Departures at xAI and X
Several key personnel have left the companies in recent months. Robert Keele, xAI’s general counsel, resigned in August after just over a year with the firm.
Raghu Rao, a senior legal professional, also departed around the same time. Furthermore, Igor Babuschkin, a co-founder of xAI, announced his departure in August to establish a venture capital firm focused on AI safety research.
Linda Yaccarino, the former CEO of X, also stepped down from her position in July.
Transition of Financial Responsibilities
Armstrong will be succeeding Mahmoud Reza Banki, the current CFO of X, who is leaving the company. This will consolidate financial leadership under Armstrong’s direction.
xAI has not yet issued an official statement in response to requests for comment regarding these changes.
