WordPress Establishes Dedicated AI Team

WordPress revealed on Tuesday the formation of a new team focused on Artificial Intelligence. This team will guide the creation of AI-driven products within its extensive developer network.

Leading this initiative is James LePage, who heads AI efforts at Automattic – the parent company of WordPress. He is joined by Felix Arntz and Pascal Birchler, both formerly of Google, and Jeff Paul, the Director of Open Source at 10up, a web design agency.

A Proactive Approach to AI Integration

Given WordPress’s position as a leading platform for website creation, developers have already begun exploring the possibilities of AI tools. The establishment of this dedicated team demonstrates WordPress’s intention to actively manage and coordinate these AI-related developments.

According to Mary Hubbard, WordPress’s executive director, a centralized team is crucial. It will foster cohesive AI development, prevent fragmentation, and guarantee alignment with the platform’s future objectives, as detailed in a recent blog post.

The Current Landscape of AI Plugins

Currently, developers utilizing WordPress.com have released 660 distinct AI plugins for the hosted platform.

Furthermore, an even greater number of plugins referencing AI functionality are available in the WordPress.org directory.

These popular plugins encompass a wide range of applications, including:

• Chatbots
