The French company WizVille is introducing a new tool, Local Monitor, designed to assist owners of restaurants, salons, bakeries, and other small businesses in monitoring their Google Maps ratings, as well as those of their rivals.

Although numerous rating platforms exist for comparing local businesses, including Foursquare, Yelp, and Tripadvisor, Google Maps has increasingly emphasized the display of ratings. It’s likely that checking ratings on Google Maps is now a common practice for many people.

“Having spent a decade working with customer ratings, it’s clear that a significant shift is underway – Google and Google Maps are becoming central to the relationship between customers and small businesses,” explained Timothée de Laitre, co-founder and CEO.

Despite this trend, many small business owners do not regularly monitor their Google My Business rating, which is visible to customers on Google Maps and within Google search results. WizVille believes this metric is critically important to track, alongside the performance of competitors.

Upon registering your business with WizVille Local Monitor, the platform identifies other nearby businesses offering similar products or services. You can then select up to five competitors for tracking.

The service then delivers a report detailing your rating, the ratings of your chosen competitors, and how these ratings change over time. This allows you to understand your relative standing in the market, with a new report provided monthly to assess your progress.

The Google Maps rating system operates on a simple average of all received ratings, regardless of when the reviews were submitted. Whether a business has been operating for ten days or ten years, all reviews contribute equally to the overall score.
