Wing and DoorDash Launch Drone Deliveries in Dallas-Fort Worth

Drone Delivery Expands in Texas with Wing and DoorDash
Alphabet’s Wing has announced an expansion of its delivery services, strengthening its collaboration with DoorDash. This partnership will now offer drone delivery to customers within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex region.
New Service Locations
Residents in the area can now utilize the service to receive food orders from approximately 50 different merchants. These merchants are situated within two prominent shopping centers: Stonebriar Centre in Frisco and Hulen Mall in Fort Worth.
Speed and Capabilities of Wing Drones
Wing asserts that its drones are capable of delivering both items and meals directly to customers’ doorsteps in a remarkably short timeframe – as little as 15 minutes.
These unmanned aerial vehicles can achieve speeds of up to 65 mph while maintaining a cruising altitude of around 150 feet, ensuring efficient navigation.
How to Access Drone Delivery
Customers residing at eligible addresses in the Dallas-Fort Worth area will find a new delivery option within the DoorDash app. This option allows them to choose drone delivery for their orders.
Eligibility can be verified through Wing’s official website. It is noted that smaller orders have a higher likelihood of qualifying for drone delivery.
Furthermore, if an order contains a large number of items that exceed the capacity of a single drone, multiple drones may be utilized to complete the delivery.
Previous Pilot Programs and Global Reach
The collaboration between Wing and DoorDash initially began with a pilot program in the United States in March. This trial offered customers in Christiansburg, Virginia, the convenience of ordering from their local Wendy’s via drone.
Wing has been actively operating drone delivery services within the U.S. since 2019, gaining valuable experience and refining its technology.
Prior to the U.S. pilot, DoorDash and Wing first established a partnership in 2022, launching drone deliveries in Australia.
To date, Wing has successfully completed over 400,000 commercial deliveries across the globe.
Shared Vision and Additional Partnerships
According to a company press release, Wing’s partnership with DoorDash is driven by a common objective: to provide customers with the speed and convenience of aerial deliveries for familiar local products and brands.
Beyond DoorDash, Wing also maintains drone delivery partnerships with other major retailers in the U.S., including Walmart and Walgreens.
