William Shatner's Space Journey to be Documented

This year witnessed a historic event as William Shatner achieved the distinction of being the oldest individual to venture into space. His remarkable voyage is now slated to be featured in an Amazon Prime documentary titled Shatner in Space.

The news was personally announced by the Star Trek actor during a virtual panel discussion at the CCXP Worlds pop culture convention, as reported by Deadline.

Details of the NS-18 Mission

Shatner was a member of the four-person crew aboard Blue Origin’s second manned mission, NS-18. New Shepherd carried them to an altitude of 66 miles, surpassing the Kármán line and officially entering space, although it did not achieve Earth orbit.

At the age of 90, Shatner surpassed the previous age record held by Wally Funk, who was 82 at the time of her spaceflight months prior.

Inside the Documentary

The forthcoming documentary will provide an in-depth look at the events leading up to, during, and following the space trip.

Alongside Shatner, the flight crew included Audrey Powers, VP at Blue Origin, Dr. Chris Boshuizen, co-founder of Planet Labs, and Glen de Vries, the co-creator of Medidata.

Blue Origin's 2021 Missions

This mission represented the second of three crewed flights planned by Blue Origin for 2021. The third, designated NS-19, is scheduled for December 9th.

The NS-19 crew will feature Laura Shepard Churchley, daughter of Alan Shepard, and Michael Strahan, co-anchor of Good Morning America, in addition to four individuals who have purchased tickets.

Shatner's Reflections and the Documentary's Message

“My time in space was the most profound experience I could have ever imagined,” Shatner conveyed to Deadline. “This special documenting my journey offers a compelling perspective on that experience, and my aspiration is that it motivates the world to recognize the necessity of space exploration for the preservation of Earth.”

Shatner in Space will premiere on Amazon Prime on December 15th in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. Availability in other regions is anticipated in 2022.
