Amarok Burn Functionality in Ubuntu: Resolving the Disabled Menu Item

If you're an Ubuntu user employing the Amarok music player and find the "Burn this Album" option grayed out and inaccessible, a missing dependency is likely the cause.

Amarok, being a KDE application, is specifically designed to integrate with K3b, KDE's dedicated CD burning software.

However, K3b isn't included as a default installation in Ubuntu. Similarly, Amarok itself may require separate installation.

Installing K3b and Required Libraries

To resolve this issue, open a terminal window and execute the following command. This single command installs both K3b and the necessary libk3b2-mp3 library for MP3 encoding during the burning process:

sudo apt-get install k3b libk3b2-mp3

After the installation completes, the "Burn This Album" function should become available when you right-click on an album within Amarok.

Burning an Album with K3b

The burning process itself is straightforward. Simply select your preferred CD writer and initiate the burn by clicking the "Burn" button.

Disabling K3b's Notification Sound

K3b features a rather prominent trumpet sound upon completion of a burn, which some users may find disruptive.

To disable this sound, navigate to Settings, then select "Configure K3b". Within the configuration window, click on the "Notifications" section.

The quickest solution is to click the "Turn Off All" sounds button. Alternatively, you can choose a different sound effect if desired.
