Wandelbots Secures $84 Million Series C Funding

Founded in Dresden, Germany, Wandelbots has successfully obtained substantial funding since its initial appearance at Disrupt Berlin in 2017. The company, specializing in no-code robotic software, initially raised $6.8 million the following year.

Further investment followed in June 2020, with a $30 million raise, fueled by growing interest in automation as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted manufacturing processes.

Expanding Financial Backing

Today, Wandelbots announces an $84 million Series C funding round, bringing the total funding received to over $100 million. This latest investment was spearheaded by Insight Partners.

Existing investors also participated, including 83North, Microsoft, Next47, Paua, Atlantic Labs, and EQT.

Addressing Robotic Deployment Challenges

Wandelbots focuses on a key challenge: simplifying the deployment of robotics in industrial environments. The core question the company addresses is how to enable factories to implement robotic systems without extensive external support, significant financial outlay, or specialized robotic programming skills.

Their solution centers around a device called the “Trace Pen.” This tool allows an instructor to physically guide a robot through a desired motion, effectively training it. The resulting motion can then be refined within the software, eliminating the need for traditional coding.

“I’m very proud to see Wandelbots mission become a reality,” stated co-founder and CEO Christian Piechnick. “Our platform will help to accelerate human-centered robotics solutions in the industry.”

Building a Developer Ecosystem

The company is currently focused on cultivating a developer community around its robotic instruction software. Developers are encouraged to build custom teaching applications utilizing the Wandelbots platform.

Interoperability is also a key priority, with current support for Universal Robots and Yaskawa systems. Wandelbots’ technology is currently utilized by major automotive clients such as BMW and VW.

Future Growth and Expansion

Wandelbots plans to use the new funding to expand its team and broaden its global reach. This includes entering new markets in the United States and Asia.

The company is committed to making robotics more accessible and user-friendly for a wider range of industries.
