VSCO Expands Global Reach and Acquires Photography Education Platform

The VSCO photo editing and sharing application has announced the worldwide release of its iOS camera application, Capture. This follows an initial limited launch in June, which restricted downloads to Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Acquisition of The Freelance Photographer

In addition to the app’s global expansion, VSCO is also acquiring The Freelance Photographer. This company specializes in both online and in-person workshops dedicated to the study of photography and videography techniques.

According to Eric Wittman, CEO of VSCO, a significant need exists for business education and specialized guidance for emerging photography professionals. He stated that The Freelance Photographer functions as a lasting career resource, providing comprehensive training, a collaborative community, and the necessary tools and insights to transform artistic skill into a viable profession.

VSCO’s first entirely new application in over ten years, Capture, is designed to facilitate image capture with a predetermined aesthetic.

Capture App Features

The application boasts over 50 presets for images, alongside a selection of real-time effects.

Users are provided with manual control over key camera functions, including shutter speed and exposure. Furthermore, the app supports image capture in both RAW and ProRAW formats.

All photos taken within Capture can be synchronized with VSCO’s cloud storage via the main VSCO application; direct uploading from Capture itself is not currently supported.
