VSCO Adds AI Editing & RAW File Support - Latest Updates

VSCO Introduces Advanced AI Image Editing Capabilities
The VSCO video editing application is undergoing significant enhancements with the integration of a new suite of AI-powered image editing tools.
These updates also include support for high-resolution RAW files, the implementation of non-destructive editing workflows, and the introduction of content-aware region detection technology.
New "AI Lab" Feature
A dedicated “AI Lab” tab now houses these innovative AI tools. This new section provides functionalities such as AI-driven object removal, mirroring capabilities found in offerings from companies like Google and Apple.
Users can easily select an object within an image – either by highlighting it or encircling it – and VSCO will intelligently replace it with a background that seamlessly blends with the surrounding area.
Intelligent Object Removal and Background Blending
The company emphasizes its use of “intelligent area detection” to ensure a natural blend after object removal. This process is designed to maintain both the image’s resolution and color accuracy.
VSCO asserts that its object removal tool surpasses many competitors in precision and detail preservation, making it particularly well-suited for the needs of professional photographers.
Upcoming "Upscale" Feature
Further expanding its AI capabilities, VSCO is preparing to launch “Upscale,” a feature designed to increase image resolution and enhance detail clarity.
This functionality aims to achieve these improvements without sacrificing the integrity of the image’s composition or overall quality.
Powering the AI Features
The core technology behind these AI features is Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext model.
Availability and Pricing
The AI Lab features are currently available to subscribers of VSCO’s Pro tier. This tier is priced at $12.99 per month or $60 annually, and is accessible through the VSCO Studio app on iOS.
Notably, VSCO is not imposing any limitations on the frequency with which users can utilize the AI Lab features.
VSCO’s Vision for AI in Photography
According to Eric Wittman, VSCO’s CEO, “Since our inception, VSCO has supported authentic creative expression and has provided photographers with many ways to achieve their desired success.
We see how much AI is impacting photography, and are focused on bringing AI tools to our community that are designed specifically to support photographers in achieving creative excellence while respecting the art of their photography.”
Expanding the VSCO Ecosystem
VSCO has been actively expanding its suite of tools to enhance its competitive position within the image editing market.
Recent additions include an AI-powered whiteboard for collaborative project work with clients, launched in May, and a marketplace connecting photographers with potential clients, introduced last year.
Furthermore, the company launched Workspace earlier this year to streamline booking and scheduling processes for photographers.
