Addressing Shaky Footage with VideoPad

Originally, this guide focused on vReveal, a desktop video editor with a shake correction feature. As that application is no longer available, we’ve updated the instructions to utilize a comparable tool.

Regardless of your experience level with video recording, encountering shaky footage is a common occurrence. Perhaps a spontaneous moment required immediate capture, or maintaining perfect stability is still a skill in development. Whatever the reason, VideoPad’s free video editor provides a swift solution for stabilizing unsteady videos.

Getting Started with VideoPad

Download the free version of VideoPad from the provided link and proceed through the installation. After installation is complete, select New Project to initiate a new video file.

Import the video files exhibiting shakiness into VideoPad by either dragging and dropping them directly or utilizing the Open button. Importing the video is all that's needed before stabilization; adding it to the timeline isn't required.

Stabilizing Your Video

Right-click on the imported video file within the Video Files tab and select the Stabilize Video option. This will initiate the download of a necessary plugin for performing the stabilization process.

Following the plugin download, you’ll be presented with stabilization quality options. While High Quality is the default setting, you can alternatively choose Low, Medium, or Ultra Quality based on your needs.

Clicking the Advanced button reveals a comprehensive set of options for fine-tuning the stabilization process. However, this level of customization is generally not recommended for beginners.

The Options button allows you to adjust compression and audio settings. Once you’ve configured your preferences, click OK to allow the stabilizer to begin its work.
